The trans-LINK Project is committed to building capacity in gender-based violence among trainees from diverse backgrounds. Current and former trainees include: 

 

Mechaela Alfonso

(May 2023 – Present)

Mechaela (she/her) is an MSW student at Carleton University. Mechaela joins the trans-LINK Network team as a Summer Student Research Program Student working on the development of a curriculum for health and social service providers focused on improving the response to trans and gender-diverse survivors of intimate partner violence.


Gabrielle Gonsalves

(May 2023 - Present)

Gabrielle (she/her) is an incoming law student at Osgoode Hall Law School. She is a Summer Student Research Program student aiding in the creation of a curriculum for health and social service providers focused on improving the response to trans and gender-diverse survivors of intimate partner violence.


Hyuna Seo

(September 2021 - Present)

Hyuna (she/her) is an undergraduate student at McMaster University in the Bachelor of Health Sciences Program. As part of her program, Hyuna is working with the trans-LINK Network team to assess the uptake of our e-learning and in-person, “Providing Trans-Affirming Care to Sexual Assault Survivors”, curricula.

Madelaine Coelho

(May 2021 - Present)

Madelaine (she/her; MA) is a summer research student at Women’s College Research Institute, Women’s College Hospital and an incoming doctoral student at the University of Toronto's Department of Sociology. Madelaine focused on implementing the PARTNER social network analysis survey and is now aiding in the analysis of the data and write up findings.

Nicholas LeBel

(June - August 2021)

Nicholas (he/him; BSc) was a summer research student at Women’s College Research Institute, Women’s College Hospital and a student in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. During his placement with the trans-LINK Project, Nicholas worked on the PARTNER survey data analysis and co-facilitated a consultation with trans-LINK members to develop recommendations based on the survey findings.


Rachel Cheung

(November 2020 - August 2021)

Rachel (she/her; BA) was a research student at Women’s College Research Institute, Women’s College Hospital and an MSW student in the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work at the University of Toronto. During her placement with the trans-LINK Project, Rachel contributed to the design and analysis of a stakeholder survey to shape Canada’s first research agenda on sexual assault and intimate partner violence against trans people in Canada.

Nathalie Villalba

(November 2020 - January 2021)

Nathalie (she/her: BScN) was a research student at Women’s College Research Institute, Women’s College Hospital and was pursuing a Health Informatics/Health Information Management Post Graduate University Diploma at McMaster University. During her placement with the trans-LINK Project, Nathalie helped to compile and screen resources for inclusion on our trans-LINK WebPortal.

(October - December 2019)

Shilini (she/her; BA&Sc) was a research student at Women’s College Research Institute, Women’s College Hospital and an MSc student at the Institute of Medical Sciences at the University of Toronto. During her placement with the trans-LINK Project, Shilini worked on analyzing and writing up data from our Network Formation Stage Survey.

Joseph Friedman Burley

(May - August 2019)

Joseph (he/him; BA&Sc) was a summer research student at Women’s College Research Institute, Women’s College Hospital and an MPH student at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. During his placement with the trans-LINK Project, Joseph co-designed, coordinated, and facilitated our seven regional Knowledge Mobilization and Community Engagement (KM-CE) meetings held in Toronto, Mississauga, North York, London, Ottawa, Sudbury, and Thunder Bay.

Megan Saad

(August 2018 - June 2019)

Megan (she/her; BSc [Hons]) was a research student at Women’s College Research Institute, Women’s College Hospital and an MPH student at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. During her placement with the trans-LINK Project, Megan helped develop the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) connection grant that funded the trans-LINK Network’s Planning Stage. She also co-facilitated our seven regional Knowledge Mobilization and Community Engagement (KM-CE) meetings held in Toronto, Mississauga, North York, London, Ottawa, Sudbury, and Thunder Bay.
